Bath Christmas Market
We head to the picturesque city of Bath and its Christmas Market. Packed with high quality Christmas gifts, homewares, food and drink, jewellery and more, this market focuses on supporting local traders. Take the chance to start your Christmas shopping or simply enjoy the atmosphere and the variety of offerings.
After spending the night at our hotel, we head to the world-famous Highclere Castle, residence of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon and filming location for the much loved Downton Abbey television series. Many of the rooms and vistas will be familiar to viewers of the TV series – both the Drawing Room and Dining Room forming the backdrop to the dryly withering put-downs delivered by Maggie Smith, as the Dowager Countess to some poor unfortunate relation. The Egyptian Exhibition in the cellars of the castle explores the achievements of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamen in 1922 while outside, the distinctive gardens and spectacular parkland designed by ‘Capability’ Brown are a delight to explore. The castle also has a gift shop and tea room.
En-route on our way to Highclere Castle or on our way home, we’ll enjoy some time at leisure in Tetbury. A historic wool town in the picturesque Cotswolds, take in the town’s architectural gems like the many wool merchants’ houses which have largely remained unchanged since the 16th and 17th centuries. Admire the town’s seasonal decorations too.
