A Warm Welcome Awaits
in Northern Ireland
Back by popular demand and now a day longer, our break to Northern Ireland offers a winning combination of unspoilt countryside, industrial heritage and dramatic natural wonders, from the ancient stone edifices of the Giant’s Causeway to the fascinating city of Belfast.
We begin our day at the Giant’s Causeway, so-named for the enormous basalt columns produced by volcanic eruptions some sixty million years ago.
Now a World Heritage site, we enjoy a guided tour before visiting Ireland’s oldest working distillery at Bushmills – again taking a tour.
We round off the day by visiting the beautiful island of Carrick-a-Rede (pictured left), reaching it via an exhilarating rope bridge.
We head east and visit the magnificent Mount Stewart House, Garden and Temple of the Winds in County Down. Perhaps the highlight here is the property’s wonderfully atmospheric garden, which has a Mediterranean feel thanks to the mild climate of Strangford Lough.
Later we’re joined by a local guide who takes us on a tour around the loch and Ards Peninsula, telling us the history of the area. Keep a lookout for the amazing wildlife that abounds here, including seals and seabirds.
Today we enjoy a guided tour of Belfast, Northern Ireland’s capital city. Now a thriving, modern metropolis, Belfast (pictured left) has a colourful history and was a key player in the Industrial Revolution.
Still home to Harland & Wolff, the shipbuilders that built the Titanic, we’ll visit a fantastic purpose-built museum opening in 2012 to mark the centenary of the liner’s doomed maiden voyage.
We begin the day in County Down at stunning Rowallane Garden. Created in the 1860s by the Reverend John Moore to celebrate exotic species from all over the world, wander between the Secret Garden, famous Rock Garden Wood and peaceful wildflower meadows.
From here we cross into County Armagh to visit The Argory (pictured left). This beautiful Irish gentry house, built in the 1820s, boasts a wonderful rose garden and Lady Ada’s award-winning tearoom.
We’ll be staying at the La Mon Hotel & Country Club, a fantastic 4-star hotel which has proved very popular with guests who have already visited Northern Ireland with us.
Situated just outside Belfast in peaceful countryside, the La Mon offers comfortable accommodation, fantastic food and leisure facilities including a sauna, steam room and indoor pool complex.
