Our included half day excursion takes us to the charming coastal town of Whitby, famed for its connection to Bram Stoker’s Dracula and for its striking jet jewellery, popularised in Victorian times. Wander around the busy harbour before tackling the climb up to the atmospheric ruined abbey perched on the cliffs above the town.
There’s also the chance to join an optional excursion to the historic city of York (£10pp). The iconic York Minster is worth a few hours alone, thanks to its world-famous stained glass windows and status as the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. Other highlights include the narrow cobbled streets of the ‘Shambles’, where the buildings date back to medieval times, the Jorvic Centre which tells the story of York’s Viking heritage, and the ancient walls which surround the city.
