Day 3 – Vienna
We discover the main sights of Austria’s capital city of Vienna with a guided city tour. Straddling the banks of the Danube, Vienna is famous for its elegant buildings and beautiful parks. After our tour, we’ll have time to enjoy the city at our own pace.
Day 4 – Vienna Old Town & traditional Viennese café
We’re introduced to the beautiful Old Town of Vienna on a guided walking tour. Vienna’s historic centre is rich in grand buildings and monuments, churches and museums. Afterwards we visit a traditional Viennese café where we enjoy coffee, liqueur and Sachertorte, a tasty Viennese chocolate cake. The rest of the day is free to explore the city at leisure.
Day 5 – Vienna Woods
We enjoy a tour of Vienna Woods, with its spectacular scenery and natural beauty. This lovely ‘green belt’ on the edge of Vienna has over 500 square miles of forest dotted with quaint villages and vineyards and is home to a rich variety of wildlife.
Day 6 – Schönbrunn Palace
Today’s visit takes us to the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the imperial family and one of Europe’s most impressive Baroque palace complexes. Built in the 18th century, the palace became the glittering focus of court life.
Day 7 – Bratislava
We cross the border into Slovakia to visit its capital city of Bratislava. Located on the banks of the River Danube, the city boasts a picturesque Old Town with narrow streets of pastel-coloured buildings plus a hilltop castle situated above the river. We discover some of the city’s highlights on our guided walking tour.
Day 8 – Melk Abbey & Dürnstein
We set off on a scenic tour of the Danube Valley. Our first stop is the small town of Melk, home to one of the most impressive sights in Austria, Melk Abbey, an ornate Baroque Benedictine monastery standing on a promontory above the river, where we enjoy a guided tour. We continue on to Dürnstein, well known for its vineyards and wineries. The town also boasts narrow cobblestone streets, picturesque centuries-old buildings, a beautiful Baroque church tower and the ruins of a medieval castle overlooking the town.
Travel to our overnight stay in Germany, with a light evening meal included.
Continue to Calais for our return ferry home.
