We’ll stay at a well-appointed 3 or 4-star hotel. The comfortable rooms are en suite and other facilities include a bar and restaurant.

Sunday: From a morning pickup in your local area we travel by coach to Royal Windsor. Situated on the River Thames, this ancient royal town has a rich heritage dating back over 1,000 years with many beautiful buildings and cobbled streets. We enjoy some free time here to explore at our leisure before continuing to the hotel.  After checking in, we enjoy dinner and our overnight stay.

Monday: After breakfast, we head to the world-famous Highclere Castle, residence of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon and filming location for the much loved Downton Abbey television series and film. Many of the rooms and vistas will be familiar to viewers of the TV series – both the Drawing Room and Dining Room forming the backdrop to the dryly withering put-downs delivered by Maggie Smith, as the Dowager Countess to some poor unfortunate relation. The Egyptian Exhibition in the cellars of the castle explores the achievements of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922 while outside, the distinctive gardens and spectacular parkland designed by ‘Capability’ Brown are a delight to explore. The castle also has a gift shop and tea room. Afterwards, we re-join the coach for our journey home.

*If you book before 31st October then every passenger per booking will receive a free copy of Lady Carnarvon’s new book, Christmas at Highclere: Recipes and traditions from the real Downton Abbey! Bursting with tips and inspiration, this is a real treat to receive before Christmas!
