Weston Super Mare Breaks With A Visit to SS Great Britain

Glastonbury & Wells (full day)
We travel first to the ancient market town of Glastonbury. The town has a wealth of beautiful, historic buildings including the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey set in 36 acres of parkland (admission not included). It is also known for its bohemian culture, quirky shops and cafés.

Next stop is Wells, located at the foot of the Mendip Hills. England’s smallest city boasts a magnificent cathedral and unique moated Bishop’s Palace, a medieval palace which has been home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for 800 years, while the eclectic mix of buildings and narrow streets adds to the atmosphere here.

SS Great Britain & Harbour Cruise (full day)
We visit Brunel’s engineering masterpiece SS Great Britain, one of the most important ships in the world and known as ‘the greatest experiment since the Creation’ when it was launched in 1843. Brunel combined size, power and the pioneering technology of a screw propeller to create a ship that changed history. During this captivating excursion we learn about the ship’s fascinating history in the Dockyard Museum, head beneath the glass sea and can even step onto the ship itself.

Afterwards we enjoy a cruise around Bristol Harbour. Once a bustling dock where sailors and merchants would trade goods and set sail for voyages, Bristol Harbourside is now a modern combination of world-class attractions, restaurants, bars and hotels. We discover its fascinating history and contemporary culture through insightful and entertaining commentary on our leisurely cruise.

Optional Excursion

Bath – £12pp (full day)
Join us on an optional excursion to the beautiful city of Bath. The city has remained faithful to its Regency roots, with an abundance of elegant terraces, circuses and squares in a picturesque valley setting. The magnificent Royal Crescent is a must-see and the central square is home not only to Bath Abbey, but also the ancient Roman Baths. The city has an excellent selection of shops; especially along the Pulteney Bridge, one of only four bridges in the world to feature shops across its full span on both sides.
