A Salute to Dad’s Army Live in Buxton

Join us for the ultimate wartime variety show, A Salute to Dad’s Army at the Palace Hotel in the lovely spa town of Buxton! This non-stop show of laughter, sketches and songs brings to life some of the best-loved characters from the ever-popular TV series Dad’s Army. The show also features award-winning tribute artists such as Lorrie Brown as Vera Lynn and Colin Bourdiec as George Formby, plus tributes to Flanagan and Allen, Gracie Fields, Frank Sinatra, Windsor Davies and Don Estelle, with Captain Mainwaring and the home guard from Walmington-on-Sea linking all the acts with brand-new comedy sketches. Packed full of tributes to the stars who kept the nation entertained during World War Two, the show is all held together by air raid warden, Warden Braithwaite. With flags and bunting adding to the 1940s atmosphere, this afternoon of nostalgic entertainment promises to have you laughing and singing along!

The Palace Hotel

The Palace Hotel is situated in the heart of the spa town of Buxton. Set in over five acres of landscaped gardens, the hotel offers two bars and a restaurant. The health and leisure club features an indoor pool, gym, sauna and steam rooms (small charge applies).

Hotel Rating

Hotels with a JG3 rating tend to be a more formal style of hotel, often part of a hotel chain, with a greater range of facilities and services. Bedrooms are a little more spacious and have additional features. Public areas are larger and include lounge seating, a bar and restaurant with good quality food served either buffet style or with waiter service.

Sunday: From a morning pickup in your local area we travel by coach to the spa town Buxton, located on the edge of the Peak District National Park. We check into the Palace Hotel, where later, we enjoy the highlight of our weekend, A Salute to Dad’s Army variety show.

Monday: After breakfast we check out of the hotel and head to the Imperial War Museum North in Salford Quays. Telling powerful wartime stories, the museum makes full use of its extraordinary exhibition space to create an award-winning experience. Walk through a timeline of history from the First World War to the present day, explore the vast collection of over 2,000 fascinating objects and immerse yourself in the 360-degree cinematic Big Picture Show which brings to life people’s experiences of war. We rejoin the coach in the mid afternoon for the journey home.
