Scarborough, Whitby & Historic York

Our first excursion takes us to the moorland village of Goathland, where we can admire the striking views of the North York Moors and likely recognise a spot or two from the TV series Heartbeat or the Harry Potter films. Afterwards, we venture to the charming coastal town of Whitby, famed for its connection to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Wander around the quirky streets and the picturesque harbour before tackling the climb up to the atmospheric ruined abbey perched on the cliffs above the town here.

We enjoy an excursion to York, where the iconic York Minster boasts world-famous stained-glass windows and a status as the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. Other highlights include the narrow, cobbled streets of the ‘Shambles’, where the buildings date back to medieval times, the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Centre which tells the story of York’s Viking heritage and the ancient walls which surround the city. No trip to York is complete without a visit to the famous Betty’s tea rooms too!

Full Day

For our optional excursion we head to the pretty market town of Beverley, one of Yorkshire’s best-kept secrets. The town’s rich heritage is reflected in its cobbled streets, charming courtyards and historic buildings, including the 13^th-century Minster with its medieval stone carvings and stained glass. We are lucky enough to be visiting on market day – the perfect chance to pick up a bargain with a range of stalls selling local produce, crafts and more!
