Itinerary

For our first excursion, we start the day by taking a charming trip on the Severn Valley Railway for a heritage train journey from Kidderminster to the ancient town of Bridgnorth. The train meanders its way along the picturesque Severn Valley, passing sleepy towns and villages along the way. After a lovely journey, we spend some free time in Bridgnorth, notable for its many black and white buildings. The town is divided into two distinct areas: High Town and Low Town, connected by the unique cliff railway. High Town offers stunning views of the River Severn and features historic landmarks such as St. Mary’s Church and Bridgnorth Castle ruins, which lean at a greater angle than the Tower of Pisa! Low Town, situated along the river, was once a bustling port and retains its charming riverside appeal, with plenty of eateries on offer to treat yourself.

Today we make our way to Ludlow, famous for its market which has taken place for over 900 years. There’s plenty of time to explore the stalls and find yourself a hidden gem or an interesting hand-crafted gift – it’s the perfect place to shop for presents.

We travel to Shrewsbury, a fine medieval market town packed with timber-framed black and white buildings, a maze of narrow alleys and cobbled streets. Here we board our boat for a scenic cruise along the River Severn as it loops around the town. We enjoy light refreshments while we take in the beautiful views and learn about the town’s unique history from our captain’s commentary.
