Itinerary

We fly to Akureyri and transfer to the Hotel Natur, our base for the next four nights.

After breakfast, we take a trip to Lake Myvatn and visit the Pseudo Craters, a unique geological feature formed by steam explosions during volcanic activity. We then explore Dimmuborgir, a labyrinth of lava formations often referred to as the "Dark Castles," offering stunning views and a mystical atmosphere. Finally, we head to Hverir, a geothermal area with bubbling mud pools and steaming fumaroles, showcasing the raw power of nature in this region.

After dinner, there’s the option to join Pete Lawrence for a presentation on the Northern Lights and the best way to photograph them. Next, subject to suitable weather conditions, we go outside and explore the night sky with the help of Pete. An “Aurora watch” will be in operation until at least midnight!

After breakfast, we head to central Akureyri to enjoy time at leisure exploring the charming streets, visit the Akureyri Art Museum or relax in one of the local cafes. Later, we transfer to the harbour at Akureyri for an afternoon of whale watching, an unforgettable experience that showcases the majestic marine life of Iceland.

After dinner at the hotel, there’s the option to join another presentation with Pete Lawrence, where together we wait for the Aurora to make an appearance. A Northern Lights watch will again operate until at least midnight.

We enjoy breakfast and depart for our final excursion to Iceland's Arctic coastline. Our journey begins with a visit to Siglufjordur, a charming coastal town known for its stunning views and rich maritime history. Next, we explore Hjalteyri Village, a quaint settlement that offers a glimpse into traditional Icelandic life. The Herring Museum provides an insightful look into the region's fishing heritage, showcasing artefacts and stories from the golden age of herring fishing. A stop at the local bakery delights us with freshly baked goods, giving us a taste of authentic Icelandic flavours. Finally, we end the excursion at the breathtaking black-sand beach, where the dramatic scenery leaves a lasting impression.

We check out of our hotel and transfer to the airport for our return flight home.
