Itinerary

Ferry to Calais and overnight stay in France.

Continue to Hotel Neuwirt in Oberndorf, where we spend the next four nights.

On Christmas Eve we visit St Johann, a charming town in the middle of Leukental Valley, surrounded by frost-dusted peaks. Wander the shops and relax with a coffee at one of its street cafés, taking in the gorgeous scenery and Tyrolean atmosphere.

We continue to the medieval town of Kitzbühel, a delight to explore all year round with its quaint centre, brightly painted houses and stunning backdrop of the Kitzbühel Alps. Stroll along the historic alleyways and follow in the footsteps of ski legends Toni Sailer and Hansi Hinterseer, as well as the renowned painter Alfons Walde, whose paintings captured the development of the town into a world-famous winter sports centre. You may even like to take the Hahnenkamm cable car at your own expense to enjoy a drink and warming apple strudel at the panoramic restaurant, admire the alpine views and watch the skiers and snowboarders descend the mountain.

Later, a special Christmas Eve dinner awaits at the hotel before an optional Christmette (evening church service). We are also treated to Austrian Christmas cookies and mulled wine.

We enjoy a Christmas Day trip to beautiful Salzburg, where we take a guided walking tour. The birthplace of Mozart, this beautiful Baroque city is rich in art and culture, with many architectural treasures to behold. Salzburg’s magnificent castle, Hohensalzburg Fortress, sits high on the hill, whilst its spires dominate the city’s skyline. Take the chance to explore the remarkable squares and tightly woven alleys, lined with restaurants and cafés, before browsing the array of gifts and treats on offer at the enchanting Christmas market, which is normally open for business on Christmas Day.

The lovely day of celebration continues back at our hotel, with a special dinner included.

After breakfast, we travel to the elegant Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck, a beautiful alpine city framed by breathtaking scenery and snow-capped mountains. There is plenty to see around the city, including the winding streets of the picturesque Old Town, the Imperial Palace and the famous Golden Roof, built in the early 15th century for Emperor Maximilian I. Soak up the festive atmosphere, enjoy a warming drink in one of the city’s cosy cafés and be sure to discover Christmas market on bustling Maria-Theresien-Strasse, surrounded by twinkling lights and pastel-coloured architecture. Our next stop is Swarovski Crystal Worlds, created by Austrian artist André Heller and opened in 1995 to mark the company’s hundredth anniversary. There is plenty to discover, from the dazzling Chambers of Wonder to the alpine gardens, transformed into a magical winter wonderland at this time of year. Don’t forget to pick up a souvenir in the shop!

We check out of our hotel and journey to Munich, the capital of Bavaria and one of Germany’s most attractive cities. Lying near the foot of the German Alps, the city is famous for its stunning architectural wonders, including the Frauenkirche, Munich’s largest church with its two dome-topped Gothic towers and the City Hall in the Marienplatz, a vibrant square in the heart of the city. There's time to enjoy some lunch at your leisure before we continue to our overnight hotel, with dinner included.

We continue to our overnight hotel in France, with a light evening meal included. Along the way, we stop in Baden-Baden for some time to explore. Set against the backdrop of the enchanting Black Forest, reminiscent of the Brothers Grimm fairytales, this elegant town was built on thermal springs, making it a popular holiday destination for centuries.

Hotel Rating

Hotels with a JG3 rating tend to be a more formal style of hotel, often part of a hotel chain, or are very-welcoming family-owned properties. Generally, they offer a greater range of facilities and services, and bedrooms tend to be a little more spacious with additional features. Public areas are larger and include lounge seating, bar and restaurant with good quality food served either buffet style or waiter service.
