Eastbourne, Brighton & 1066 Country

We head to Brighton, popular for its iconic tourist attractions such as the Royal Pavilion with its exotic architecture. Enjoy a stroll along the famous promenade, treat yourself to some chips on the seafront or head to the ‘Lanes’ area, crammed with quirky boutiques. Along the Sussex Heritage Coast stands Beachy Head, our next stop, which is part of the South Downs National Park. These dramatic 530-ft high chalk cliffs provide stunning views over Eastbourne, the English Channel, and the famous red-and-white lighthouse below.

The delights of 1066 Country await, stopping first in Battle, the scene of William the Conqueror’s famous victory. Take the chance to see the very battlefield where history happened as well as the Benedictine monastery, built to commemorate the victory, or discover the town's independent shops and galleries. Next is the coastal town of Hastings, which boasts the remains of the first castle in England to be built by William the Conqueror and a lovely preserved Old Town with half-timbered houses and narrow streets.

Full Day

Our optional excursion takes us to the market town of Chichester, which began as a Roman settlement. Historic remains are still evident today in the town centre, spread around the market cross along with hidden gardens, secret waterways and a range of cafés. We then make our way to Arundel, with its fascinating past and contemporary culture. Nestled around a fairytale castle, the pretty streets are full of cosy tearooms, art galleries and quirky antique shops.
