After breakfast, we head to Croft Castle in Herefordshire, home to the Croft family for almost a thousand years and believed to have been built by a Norman knight (Bernard de Croft). The house’s exterior is an interesting blend of castle and country house, surrounded by historic woodland, farm and parkland, while the interior is a fine example of grand Georgian elegance. We learn more about the captivating history of the family and the house during our guided tour.
Next, we enjoy free time in the charming historic market town of Ludlow, with plenty of spots to lunch at your leisure and explore the bustling market stalls. Take a stroll through the town's picturesque streets and soak up its rich heritage. Those interested in history can purchase entrance to the impressive ruins of Ludlow Castle, a magnificent medieval fortress that has stood at the heart of the town for centuries.
We then head back to our hotel for some free time and after an early dinner, we journey to Worcester Cathedral for our evening concert. A real celebration of choral and orchestral music, the Three Choirs Festival brings together outstanding musicians, composers and choirs to perform an eclectic mix of works, from traditional choral masterpieces to contemporary compositions. As such, we can expect to hear works by world-famous composers. Previous concerts have featured the likes of Elgar, Mozart, Rachmaninov and Monteverdi - with the Saturday and Sunday concerts usually amongst the event's highlights.
