Itinerary

LeShuttle to Calais and overnight stay in Netherlands/Germany on a bed and breakfast basis.

Our journey into Germany includes a stop in Koblenz, beautifully set where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet. Enjoy free time to explore at your own pace, perhaps taking the cable car up to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress for spectacular views, or finding a spot for lunch. Afterwards, we meander along the scenic Rhine Valley, soaking up the riverside scenery as we continue towards our overnight hotel in Germany.

Look forward today to exploring the storybook streets of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of the most beautiful towns on Germany's famous Romantic Road. Wander through its wonderfully preserved medieval centre, where colourful half-timbered houses, ancient walls and charming squares create a scene straight from a fairytale. Enjoy some time at leisure before we continue into Austria and our hotel in Oberndorf-in-Tirol.

Today we relax on our panoramic Lake Achensee cruise, set against the imposing backdrop of the Karwendel Mountains and take in the beautiful scenery from a different perspective. Often referred to as the Fjord of the Alps, this is the largest lake in the Tyrol, stretching for over 9 kilometres in length and its famously turquoise hue makes for a memorable experience. Afterwards, we continue on to Rattenberg, the smallest town in Austria. Built in the shadow of Rat Mountain, the town has a long history of glass-blowing plus a picturesque well-preserved medieval centre and rows of brightly-painted townhouses. Take the chance to visit the magical world of glass - the famous Kissling Glass factory and show room, where you can watch glass blowers, engravers and painters at work.

Today is ours to enjoy the Tyrol at leisure. Take it easy at the hotel, wander through Oberndorf-in-Tirol or make the most of some of the extras available to guests. You could join a guided tour with tastings at the nearby Müllnerhof Farmhouse Museum, take a dip in the village swimming pool or use selected local bus and train services to explore further afield. The railway station is just a short walk from the hotel, giving you the freedom to discover more of this beautiful region.

Prepare for a day of unforgettable alpine scenery as we cross the spectacular Gerlos Pass, winding through some of the Tyrol's most dramatic mountain landscapes. We stop at the mighty Krimml Waterfalls, the highest in Austria, before continuing to the beautiful town of Kitzbühel. Take time to explore its pretty medieval centre, browse the shops or simply enjoy the mountain views. For an even higher perspective, you could take a ride on the Hahnenkamm cable car (not included).

Mountains, meadows and pretty alpine villages provide the backdrop for a memorable journey on the Zillertal Railway. We board the train in Mayrhofen and travel through the beautiful Ziller Valley to Jenbach, enjoying the scenery along the way. There's also free time to explore Mayrhofen at leisure, with the chance to browse the shops, find a café or, subject to seasonal operating dates, take a ride on one of the local cable cars for spectacular mountain views.

Please note: the railway reserves the right to substitute the steam locomotive with an alternative diesel-powered or electric locomotive without notice or refund, particularly at the start and end of the season.

Enjoy another day to spend as you please, or join our optional excursion to Innsbruck and Swarovski Crystal Worlds. Set against a dramatic backdrop of snow-capped peaks, Innsbruck combines Alpine scenery with a fascinating historic centre. Discover the famous Golden Roof, explore the Old Town or browse the shops before continuing to Swarovski Crystal Worlds. Step inside its magical Chambers of Wonder and explore the spectacular gardens, where art, light and crystal come together in an unforgettable experience.

We start our journey home, crossing southern Germany to our overnight stay in eastern France.

After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and head to Calais for our journey home on LeShuttle.

Accommodation

We’ll stay at comfortable hotels in France and Germany on our outbound and return journey (JG3 rating). All rooms are en suite, and other facilities include a bar and restaurant.

Your hotel will be confirmed approximately 3 weeks before departure, therefore we cannot guarantee that the hotel will have a lift and/or ground floor rooms and may be unsuitable for those with limited mobility.

Hotel Rating

Generally, they offer a greater range of facilities and services, and bedrooms tend to be a little more spacious with additional features. Public areas are larger and include lounge seating, bar and restaurant with good quality food served either buffet style or waiter service.
