English Riviera Weekend

There’s nothing like a blast of sea air to rejuvenate and relax, especially on the beautiful south coast of England. This lovely weekend break is centred on the charming English Riviera, a section of Devonian coastline dotted with idyllic seaside resorts, unspoilt coves and picture-postcard towns. We visit some of these delightful towns from our base in the traditional resort of Torquay

Riviera Hotel

Riviera Hotel (JG3 rating)

The friendly Riviera Hotel is located in the heart of Torquay, just a short walk from the beach. The hotel offers en-suite rooms with a flat-screen TV and tea and coffee-making facilities, a restaurant, a show bar, a sports bar, an indoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi.

Hotel Rating

Hotels with a JG3 rating tend to be a more formal style of hotel, often part of a hotel chain, or are very-welcoming family-owned properties. Generally, they offer a greater range of facilities and services, and bedrooms tend to be a little more spacious with additional features. Public areas are larger and include lounge seating, bar and restaurant with good quality food served either buffet style or waiter service.

Dawlish & Teignmouth (half day)

Our included half-day excursion takes us first to Dawlish, a quaint and friendly resort that was once a tiny fishing village until the Victorian Railway age turned it into a thriving seaside town. It nestles between striking red sandstone cliffs overlooking a sandy beach, with the railway still running right alongside the seafront. We then make our way to Teignmouth, a handsome estuary town which has the benefits of a bustling harbour as well as the classic attractions of a seaside resort. It boasts an elegant Georgian crescent, promenade and Victorian pier with fine views across the bay.

Optional Excursion

Brixham & Paignton – £9pp (half day)

Why not join us for an optional half-day excursion to Brixham and Paignton? We head first to Brixham, a pretty fishing port with a bustling waterside fringed by colourful houses on the surrounding hillsides. The harbour is also home to a replica of Sir Francis Drake’s ship, the Golden Hind. We then spend some time in Paignton with its long, sandy beaches, lively seafront and fantastic views across Torbay.
