Itinerary

Ferry to Calais and onwards to our hotel in Cologne, where we stay overnight on a half-board basis.

We continue our journey to Frankfurt, taking a leisurely drive along the Rhine and stopping at Rüdesheim am Rhine for lunch at your leisure. On arrival in Frankfurt, we board the A-ROSA CLEA for the start of our seven-day cruise.

Arriving in Speyer late morning, step ashore to explore one of Germany’s oldest cities on a guided walking tour. Discover its imperial past as we stroll beneath the twin towers of the mighty Romanesque cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander through charming lanes, see the historic Jewish quarter and enjoy time to browse local shops or relax in a café. Later, we return to our ship as the crew prepares for our onward journey to Strasbourg.

Strasbourg, capital of the Grand Est region and once part of Alsace, straddles the French-German border, its river marking the divide. A guided tour reveals the storybook charm of the Old Town, with timber-framed houses, winding alleys and the flower-lined canals of Petite France. Marvel at the soaring Gothic cathedral, then journey on to Obernai, a postcard-perfect Alsatian town where we enjoy more guided insights and free time to explore its medieval streets, market squares and local delicacies.

Enjoy a relaxed morning aboard the A-ROSA CLEA, as she remains moored in Strasbourg until midday. Take a final stroll along the quay, enjoy coffee on deck or simply soak up the riverside atmosphere before setting sail. This afternoon, unwind as the Rhine scenery drifts by - vineyards, forested hills and sleepy villages. Make the most of the ship’s spa, lounge or sun deck and enjoy the slower pace of river cruising as we head south towards Basel.

This morning, the A-ROSA CLEA arrives in Basel, Switzerland’s vibrant cultural capital. A guided city tour by coach introduces its highlights, from the striking red sandstone Town Hall and medieval Old Town to the impressive Rhine-spanning bridges and the bold architecture of its modern art museums. Basel is where Swiss, French and German influences meet, creating a unique cosmopolitan charm. After the tour, enjoy time at leisure before the ship departs in the late afternoon.

Arriving early in Breisach, enjoy a gentle morning stroll with our tour manager to the Geldermann cellar, nestled beneath the historic hilltop. Here, we discover the secrets of traditional méthode champenoise sparkling wine production, with time to taste and explore. Those preferring not to walk can travel by coach. Afterwards, enjoy free time in Breisach - perhaps wander the cobbled streets, visit the cathedral or simply relax with a coffee before rejoining the A-ROSA CLEA for our afternoon departure.

This morning, the A-ROSA CLEA docks in Mainz, heart of the Rhineland’s wine-growing region and birthplace of the printing revolution. Explore the atmospheric Old Town, where cobbled lanes wind between colourful half-timbered houses, lively wine bars and traditional shops. After time to explore, we rejoin the ship as it sails onward to Frankfurt this afternoon.

This morning, we disembark the A-ROSA CLEA in Frankfurt and begin our scenic journey to Reims. Travelling via the historic city of Trier, we follow the course of the beautiful Moselle River, past steep vineyards, charming river towns and winding valleys that have shaped this winemaking region for centuries. After time to stretch your legs and take in Trier’s Roman heritage, we continue into France, arriving in elegant Reims for an overnight stay in the heart of Champagne country.

We depart Reims this morning and travel north through the French countryside, stopping in Amiens for lunch at your leisure. Later, we continue to Calais for our return ferry home.
