Hotels with a JG2 rating are a mixture of larger hotels and privately owned properties. Décor and furnishings may be simple but are clean and well maintained. All bedrooms have en-suite facilities, TV and may have tea/coffee making facilities. Food may be buffet style in some of the larger hotels. Services may be limited but efficient.

Kendal, Bowness-on-Windermere & Lake Windermere Cruise (full day)

We make our way to the Lake District, stopping first at the town of Kendal, the southern gateway to the Lakes and home of the famous Kendal mint cake. We then head to Bowness-on-Windermere, a charming enclave on the eastern shores of Lake Windermere.

From here we explore the beauty of Lake Windermere on a scenic cruise. We enjoy magnificent views of mountain scenery, secluded bays and many wooded islands as we cruise England’s largest lake. We disembark back in Bowness-on-Windermere where we enjoy free time in this bustling town with its craft and gift shops, lakeside cafés and tea rooms.

Bury Market, East Lancashire Railway & Blackpool Illuminations Evening Drive (full day)

The town of Bury is renowned for its fantastic 500-year-old market. One of Britain’s finest traditional markets, it boasts over 350 stalls offering a wide range of products – perfect for shoppers and bargain hunters.

After a morning browsing the busy market, we board our train on the heritage East Lancashire Railway for a relaxing journey to Rawtenstall. We weave our way through the scenic Irwell Valley with its beautiful rural panoramas and picture-postcard villages, passing over viaducts and through tunnels.

Later we enjoy an evening drive to see the famous Blackpool Illuminations. This dazzling spectacle is one of the biggest light shows in the world!

Optional Excursion

Southport & Lytham St Annes – £12pp (full day)

On our optional excursion we head first to the traditional Victorian seaside town of Southport. Known as England’s Classic Resort, it is home to the country’s second longest and oldest pier, and has miles of golden sands plus beautiful parks and gardens, perfect for a relaxing stroll.

We continue on to the charming seaside resort of Lytham St Annes, nestled on a picturesque stretch of coastline. Enjoy the fresh air along the seafront or explore some of the sights such as the Grade II listed windmill and beautifully-restored Victorian pier.
